NextBrick has implemented a digital library on the FAST platform for a government customer which provides an online digital library of information about homeland security. FAST technology is at the core of the digital library. FAST spiders multiple content sources to harvest links and documents for the library, provides site search, and also serves all taxonomy pages. The taxonomy pages are generated via a custom faceted taxonomy viewer which dynamically queries the FAST engine across multiple content metadata attributes, enabling users to drill down within topical categories for attributes such as location and achieve a high degree of precision when browsing for documents in the digital library. The digital library has successfully served its initial user base and is now being opened to multiple government agencies as an embedded web service within those agencies’ intranets. NextBrick’s services included planning, design, development, deployment, testing, maintenance, and upgrades.
